Why the United States Will Need to Legalize Drug Use Soon – Yes, even Heroin

$37,000,000,000. That’s how much money the government spends trying to rid drugs from America’s streets. Every. Single. Year. Source.
According to the White House, Americans spend over $100,000,000,000 on illicit drugs. Each year. Source.

That’s a lot of cheddar. This doesn’t take into account the number of jobs that would be created producing the substances that people are consuming, nor does it take into consideration how many more people would consume them if they could do so without fear of being arrested.

Americans spent 100 Billion dollars on illicit substances in one year. Imagine if that was taxed. Imagine how much good could be done with the 37 billion dollars that would be saved by not trying to suppress what amounts to a bodily function.
So, why might we need to start legalizing drug use? Because of the numbers. According to the census bureau, the United States only has enough money to continue paying social security checks for another 10 years. This was an eventuality from the start. Social security, which is a Ponzi scheme (by definition – look it up if you don’t believe us) – won’t be able to pay our generation, let alone our children’s generation. It relies on constant “recruitment” (births) to pay off the older generation of “investors,” rather than providing a good or a service. This is going to be a dicey time for the government. They’ll be looking for new opportunities for tax revenue. Let’s hope they don’t try to get blood from a stone and realize that the only way to make it work is to legalize and tax a safe supply of drugs. Not that we hope it takes that long to get the change we need, but it’s one possibility.

Furthermore, the national debt is looming large. It’s now rising by $100,000… every second. This is unsustainable. Within 10 years, 50% of our income will be taxed to pay the intersest on the existing debt alone. The United States will be forced to either default, go to war with our debtors, or sell our country to the highest bidder. All of these options come with terrible risks to our nation.
Whatever happens, you can bet that something will change. Let’s hope it’s the right thing.

It’s high time for change.
I’ve been advocating for precisely this for over a decade.
When you really look at the data, most of the drug violence is due to the prohibitions, often including overreach by LEOs, NOT to the drug use.
The current system is unsustainable, and punishes the WRONG PEOPLE, but that’s what most Republicans seem to like about it – it plays right into their prisons for profit model, and keeps them making big money.
Eliminating the drug prohibitions would lead to a largely healthier and less violent society, our DWI and DUI laws would remain on the books to dissuade people from driving while impaired, and harmful stigmas would be removed for people who choose to self-treat with plant medicines.
Prohibition was a disastrous failure for alcohol, which largely funded the mob and fueled their meteoric rise to power; the same is true of today’s drug prohibitions and the drug cartels.
It’s not about safety – it’s about control and money. It’s truly disappointing.
Precisely. Please consider printing the “Letter to your Senator”, filling it out and sending it in to your congressional representative.
