Why are Drugs Illegal?

Think about what comes to mind when you hear the word “drugs.” If you’re like most people, you just had a mental image of needles, jail cells, and disease. In reality, the majority of negative consequences of drug use are unnatural, man-made consequences, as opposed to natural ones such as tolerance and withdrawal.

Using drugs is a personal decision that people sometimes make. Most of the time, they are either too young to fully understand the consequences, or they’re in such difficult circumstances that the temporary escape provided by drugs seems worth the risk. However, these risks are made exponentially worse by our overbearing government. In a civilized society, no one should lose their freedom and have their rights removed for possessing or using personal amounts of substances.
This brings me to the point of this post. We all understand that drugs aren’t “good for you.” Everyone knows that drugs can cause serious problems in one’s life, relationships, and work. However, so can overeating. In fact, obesity kills many more people every year than drugs do, even when we take the newer statistics that include Chinese fentanyl into account.

…McDonald’s is still available. I can, right now at 11:15 at night, go to a McDonald’s and buy more calories than I need in a week for less than $20. This proves that drugs aren’t illegal for health reasons. If not for public safety, then why?

Is it because drugs are immoral? Are they immoral? Regardless of how you feel about drug use, one newspaper, one trip to Las Vegas, or one walk down any city block in the country will tell you that morality isn’t the reason they’re illegal.
Makes you wonder.
We need to update our country’s laws to reflect not only the way the majority of us feel about drugs, but also to better handle the severity of the problem. We have been in a state of full or partial prohibition for over 100 years. It’s not working. That’s why we at antiprohibit.com need your help. You can help by:
